Founded in 1960, the Universidade Federal Fluminense is a public university, part of the federal government’s higher education system. Its headquarters are located in the city of Niterói, but it has several campuses in other cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, it is one of the largest public universities in the country, in relation to the number of students enrolled and is well ranked nationally and internationally, being considered one of the best universities in the country.
The Praia Vermelha campus, where the Postgraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering is located, is located on the shores of Guanabara Bay and has buildings with large and comfortable facilities. PGMEC has excellent facilities for students. Every student has a study room at their disposal, with free access to a network of microcomputers connected to the internet.
Full-time students have private desks and lockers. The PGMEC structure is made up of several teaching and research laboratories. The University also has a library system, bank branch, restaurant, cinema, theater, as well as a symphony orchestra.
